Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp must win against Manchester United, says John Aldridge

That’s the opinion of Reds hero John Aldridge who believes Jurgen Klopp’s side cannot afford to fall any further back from their rivals.

Liverpool are already seven points behind United with Manchester City, Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal ahead of them as well.

The Reds have been impressive going forward with the combination of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho flourishing.

But in defence it has been a different story with West Ham and Crystal Palace the only sides to concede more than the 12 goals Liverpool have.

“I’m not Jose Mourinho’s biggest fan for a variety of reasons,” Aldridge explained to the Irish Independent.

“But he gets his teams winning if you give him time and with Romelu Lukaku scoring goals for fun and his defence looking like the best in the Premier League, United are ready to push for the title for the first time since Alex Ferguson’s retirement as their manager.

“It may still be too early to write off teams like Chelsea and Tottenham, but if United were to win at Anfield and open up a ten-point lead over Klopp’s side, the game would already be up for Liverpool.

“That would be very hard to take for a team that continues to make the same mistakes week-after-week, with Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Newcastle the latest example of the frustrating story we watch every time they take to the field now.”

Liverpool will hope to bounce back against United following their 1-1 draw with Newcastle last weekend.

But the Reds will have to wait until Saturday, October 14 because of the current international break.

After United, Klopp’s side face Maribor in the Champions League and then Tottenham in the top flight.
