Antoine Griezmann is Didier Deschamps‘ number one choice, but both Gunners stars will fancy their chances of being at the World Cup alongside the Atletico Madrid player.

Lacazette replaced Giroud on the hour mark of France’s disappointing 0-0 draw with Luxembourg recently.

But Arsenal supporters will be hoping that the extra motivation of international football will enhance both players’ performances at club level.

The north London club’s £52m record signing was quick to point out that the France side are not getting ahead of themselves however.

“We have to qualify first before we start talking about Russia,” Lacazette told Arsenal’s website.

“I hope I will have a role in the team.

“For now I'm in the squad and I just hope to be one of those selected to play in a match and go as far as I can.

“We have a lot of young talented players as well as a group of very established players.

“That's a great combination that could help us to go a long way in Russia.”

France take on Bulgaria in their Group A qualifier tonight and Lacaztte is hoping to start, to impress not just Deschamps but Arsene Wenger too.

“I know that playing well at Arsenal improves my chances with the French team and vice versa.

“If I play well for the French team, then the boss is pleased so it's a win-win situation.”

France, currently ranked 8th in the world, are top of their group with just Sweden one point behind.

Lacazette and Giroud have scored six goals between them for Arsenal so far this season.
