The summer signing, bought for £30.7m from Benfica, has hardly featured for the Red Devils this season.

Jose Mourinho has taken a similar approach with the 23-year-old to what he did with Henrikh Mkhitaryan last term.

While Lindelof has played in the Champions League, he has had to watch his team-mates dominate in the Premier League.

Unbeaten United sit second in the table, having conceded just two goals in seven matches so far.

Eric Bailly has been partnered in central defence by Phil Jones and they are expected to team up again at Liverpool on Saturday (12.30pm).

Lindelof is unlikely to play in the crunch showdown at Anfield, but the Sweden international is excited by United's chances against their arch rivals.

"When I get my chance I want to do everything I can to help the team," Lindelof said.

"That's what I've been doing when I play Champions League. So, there's no problem for me.

"I'm just there to do my job. I am enjoying life in England, we are playing well.

"I have good team-mates and good coaches and it is a competitive league, that's what makes it the best in the world.

"We had a very good start and we want to continue and play good football. We have a very good squad. We go game by game.

"It is a big game on Saturday and we are looking forward to it."

Lindelof could return to Manchester United's starting XI at former club Benfica next Wednesday in their third Champions League group stage game.
