Pogba is still sidelined with a hamstring injury he sustained and has missed United’s last five matches.
And Neville insists that a player with Pogba’s confidence to drive forward with the ball is essential in big matches.
"I think Pogba is a big loss, you need guts to play in centre-midfield, Paul Scholes used to have it," he said.
"That's my worry with (Nemanja) Matic and (Ander) Herrera, here you have no time on the ball. It's a big loss."
Pogba had an incredible start to the season, scoring twice and providing two assists before suffering injury.
Summer signing Matic has been an ever-present in the league, while Jose Mourinho has brought in Herrera to replace the injured Marouane Fellaini.
Manchester United are currently unbeaten and are level on points at the top of the Premier League with neighbours Manchester City.
They travel to Anfield this afternoon at face seventh-placed Liverpool, who have been dealt a major blow as star man Sadio Mane picked up a hamstring injury on international duty.
