Liverpool defender Joe Gomez thinks Liverpool did enough to beat Manchester United

There was nothing separating the two teams as they played out a goalless draw at Anfield, with both sides missing good opportunities to score.

Gomez insists that Liverpool did enough to beat their fierce rivals and believes it was a promising performance to build on.

"It's a bit frustrating for us considering the chances we had in the game," he said.

"We'll try to take the positives of a clean sheet and a point against such a good team.

“They had a couple of chances as well, but overall we feel we dominated the game.

"They're a good side with some top class players, but we know we're a good team as well and go into every game believing we can win."

The draw moves Liverpool level on points with Chelsea and Arsenal, while Manchester United leapfrog neighbours City at the top of the Premier League.

But it could have been so much better for Jurgen Klopp’s side had David De Gea not pulled off an unbelievable save from Joel Matip’s close range effort.

"I think we dominated,” said Matip.

“We had most of the possession and had one or two chances. But it's okay, we can live with this.

David De Gea earned Manchester United a point against Liverpool with a world class save

"It was a great save from De Gea, but we had some opportunities. I have to score and maybe we win this game. His reaction was brilliant.

"We have to move on and take the positive things.”

Both sides return to action next week in the Champions League, as Liverpool travel to Maribor, while Jose Mourinho’s side visit Benfica.
