Despite their stunning start to the new season, City boss Pep Guardiola is keen to add to his ranks this winter.

Guardiola suffered a major blow following the long-term injury to Benjamin Mendy and he wants a new full-back as cover.

Fabian Delph has filled in well during Mendy’s absence but City want a quality replacement and The Sun claim £30m-rated Bertrand is on their radar.

Chelsea have endured a mixed campaign so far following their failure to land several targets over the summer.

It is said the Blues are also interested in a January swoop for Bertrand, potentially setting up a transfer tug-of-war in the New Year.

City and Chelsea both had eyes on Bertrand over the summer and Southampton boss Mauricio Pellegrino is bracing himself for bids.

As well as Bertrand, fellow Saints defenders Cedric Soares and Virgil van Dijk are also attracting interest from elsewhere.

Southampton have been steady so far this season.

But Bertrand may feel a move to one of the Premier League’s top clubs could help push his claim to start for England at next summer’s World Cup.

He did start the Three Lions’ key qualifying win over Slovenia last week but his place will come under threat when Tottenham’s Danny Rose returns to fitness.
