That is the damning verdict of former Chelsea coach and pundit Ray Wilkins.

The Blues striker has seen his game time limited since arriving at Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2016.

Signed for £33m from Marseille, Batshuayi has chipped in with goals when called upon but rarely been trusted to lead the line by Antonio Conte.

The Belgium international started up front at Crystal Palace on Saturday due to Alvaro Morata's hamstring injury.

However, he struggled to impress in Chelsea's shock 2-1 defeat and was substituted for Pedro after just 57 minutes.

Chelsea failed to strengthen their frontline further at the end of the window in August, being pipped to Fernando Llorente by Tottenham.

Meanwhile, the Blues loaned out in-form Tammy Abraham to Swansea and saw Dominic Solanke run down his contract to join Liverpool.

And Wilkins believes the two strikers would have offered more competition for a place this season.

“Unfortunately we’ve lost Morata so we’re having to reply on Batshuayi,” Wilkins said on Sky Sports.

“On Saturday (against Crystal Palace) I would have to say he was a bit of a liability.

“His movement is almost null and void and when you’re playing in a team like Chelsea, your movement has to be first-class up front.

“When you think we gave away Solanke to Liverpool for nothing.

"Solanke appears on the bench every week for Liverpool because Klopp thinks he is now ready to take part.

“Young Tammy Abraham scored twice on Saturday for Swansea, he’s still a Chelsea player.

“He has movement and desire and I’m not sure I’m seeing that in young Batshuayi at the moment.

“The one thing about Chelsea supporters, and I stood in amongst it on Saturday and loved it because they were first-class our supporters, but they need desire from them, a little bit more desire.”

Chelsea are set to have Morata back in action on Wednesday when they welcome Roma in the Champions League (7.45pm).
