Chelsea are planning a January bid for Crystal Palace star Christian Benteke

The Chelsea chief has been frustrated by his side’s lack of firepower up top in Alvaro Morata’s absence.

Morata was injured in the Blues’ 1-0 defeat to Manchester City last month and missed their shock loss at Crystal Palace last weekend.

The £60m summer signing, who has scored seven goals in nine Chelsea appearances this season, did return for last night’s 3-3 Champions League draw with Roma.

But Conte wants further reinforcements up front this winter just in case Morata suffers another injury blow.

Michy Batshuayi has struggled to impress Conte during the Italian’s time at Stamford Bridge.

And Transfermarketweb claim the Blues boss is now looking to bring Benteke to west London when the transfer market reopens.

The Crystal Palace forward is currently sidelined with a knee injury and missed their win over Chelsea on Saturday.

But that hasn’t put the Premier League champions off a move for him in January.

It is said that Conte is still irked at missing out on Fernando Llorente last summer and is now eager to land Benteke.

The ex-Liverpool and Aston Villa ace is currently under contract at Selhurst Park until June 2020.

But the Blues will have the cash to lure him across London in the New Year.
