Pogba is close to full fitness after more than a month on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.

And Scholes believes the return of the France international will provide a natural boost to Manchester United's attacking play.

Mourinho parked the bus in the goalless draw at Liverpool over the weekend and narrowly beat Benfica 1-0 in the Champions League last night.

"He gives you that balance in midfield," Scholes said of Pogba.

"(Nemanja) Matic and (Ander) Herrera (against Benfica) last night, they're two very similar players, you have to question do you need both.

"If Pogba's fit he comes in and he can do the defensive side and the attacking side better than both of them.

“He's a big miss and hopefully he'll be back soon and the attacking play can improve."

Pogba, 24, scored two goals and provided two assists in his six appearances before being forced off against Basel last month.
