That is according to pundit and former Arsenal defender Martin Keown.

Liverpool have suffered an indifferent start to the season and currently sit eighth in the table.

They trail league leaders Manchester City by nine points.

And Keown believes despite keeping main man Philippe Coutinho in the summer, the Reds do not have enough star quality to compete this season.

"I do not think Liverpool’s squad is strong enough," he told the Daily Mail.

"It was massive to keep hold of Philippe Coutinho but you feel it could only be a matter of time before they lose him.

"With Coutinho, Liverpool need to make hay while the sun is still shining and hope they don’t lose him in January."

However, Keown was positive about the man in charge of the squad.

The former England centre-back praised Jurgen Klopp, saying he would love to play under him.

"Jurgen Klopp has steered Liverpool back into the Champions League and has reached the Europa League final," he added.

"He understands and has picked up the mindset of the Liverpudlians and their massive passion for football.

"Klopp knows the traditions of the club. Liverpool were giants of European football and the manager lives with those pressures quite well.

"If I could put my boots back on and play for one current manager, it would be him."

Liverpool take on Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.
