Tottenham battered the Reds 4-1 at Wembley yesterday following goals from Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Dele Alli.

Mohamed Salah grabbed one back for the Reds with Spurs 2-0 up - but the visitors couldn’t build on it.

Speaking after the clash, Matip claimed Premier League glory isn’t on the cards at the moment.

"We gave them the opportunities,” he said.

“It was not like they played the perfect balls, we gave them the opportunities - we have to stop the mistakes.

"Most teams at home with the stand in their back are always stronger. (Away from home) I am a defender and I should take care of this.

"We don't think about the title race at the moment, we only try to get back in a good mood for next week."

Liverpool struggled defensively throughout the match - as they have done for most of the season.

Kop boss Jurgen Klopp says he takes responsibility for their woes at the back.

He said: "It is my responsibility.

“No I don't coach the type of defending for the first throw in... the second goal, we miss the ball and then Son is quicker. We put it on a plate.

"It's not about confidence. It's just about being 100% spot on. It was a really average day for us today."
