That is the verdict of ESPN pundit Alejandro Moreno.

Mourinho has been lambasted for his approach in United's 0-0 draw against Liverpool.

This was followed by a shock 2-1 defeat at Huddersfield.

Since the clash, the Red Devils have been criticised for their performance at the John Smith's Stadium.

However, Moreno believes it may be due to the fact Mourinho has confused his players.

“When you go to Huddersfield, you are supposed to be the team that carries the pace of the game," he said on ESPN when asked about United's performance on Saturday.

"The team that has the onus of having to create chances.

“Well, hold on a second, you [Mourinho] asked us for the last couple of weeks to be defensive.

“So the mindset has to change, the approach has to change.

“Now attacking players need to be attacking, creative players now have to be creative players.

“But you have asked them not to do that before and now you’re asking them ‘hey, don’t be predictable, you know what, be quick with the ball’."

And Moreno believes this change of mentality is easier said than done in the players minds.

“It’s the mindset of a player that changes from going from a defensive posture team to being an attacking team," he added.

“It’s not as simple as just to say ’today we are going to attack more than we are going to defend’.”

United will be hoping to get back on track when they take on Swansea in the cup tomorrow evening.
