Ronald Koeman's position at Everton questioned by mayor of Liverpool

The mayor of Liverpool has added to the pressure on Everton manager Ronald Koeman by questioning the team's progress this season.

Everton strengthened a number of positions with expensive signings over the summer but have made a slow start to the Premier League campaign, winning only once in seven games to sit 16th.

A late Wayne Rooney penalty rescued a point for Everton against newly promoted Brighton on Sunday, a result that has increased speculation about Koeman's position as manager.

Anderson said on Twitter: "Koeman will be judged by results, this was another poor one & poor performances v very poor side. I ask have any players improved under him?"

However, he added: "Most fans wanted him so think he should be given a bit more time. He is clearly the problem but not sure he can find solution"

Following the game, which followed a 1-0 defeat to Burnley before the international break, Koeman said: "I think we deserved something out of the afternoon.

"We know we can play better, but the commitment and belief was really positive. At least it's one point."
