Everton's Unsworth pleased with second-half improvement in Leicester loss

Everton caretaker manager David Unsworth was critical of his side's first-half display in Sunday's 2-0 loss to Leicester but was pleased with their improvement after the break.

"Second half we were much, much better and the positivity and the way we wanted to play on the front foot was there for all to see,'' he said after the match.

"But we gave them a two-goal start and first half we didn't perform, so formations and tactics can go out the window if your players don't play on the front foot.

"I want us to play on the front foot. For some reason we didn't do that in the first half, we changed it around and got two strikers on, played with a diamond and our performance was certainly a lot better second half.''

The visitors felt they should have had a penalty when Aaron Lennon was brought down in the area by Christian Fuchs, but referee Andre Marriner waved away appeals.

Unsworth said of the decision: "It's a long way from me. It's one of those where everybody says it looked like a penalty. I certainly thought it looked like a penalty but it was too far away from me to actually see if it was that clear-cut.''

When asked if he felt the result had cost him the job on a permanent basis, Unsworth said: "What I do know is that whoever gets the honour of being Everton manager, myself included, needs time with this set of players because you all have your own set of ideas.

"Every coach and manager has their idea of how they want to play, I certainly do, and you need time on the training ground to implement those ideas.''
