Liverpool set to loan out a number of their promising young stars

BIRKENHEAD -- Liverpool under-23s manager Neil Critchley admits it is possible that he could have a different squad in 2018 with loan moves possible for a significant number of his players.

Harry Wilson is the most notable player who could temporarily depart next month, with the forward having netted 12 times already during 2017-18.

Liverpool had plans to send the 20-year-old out on loan in the summer before he sustained untimely Achilles injury in preseason.

Critchley has said in the past that Cameron Brannagan and Lloyd Jones are also other obvious candidates for a loan switch, with Ovie Ejaria, Matty Virtue and Corey Whelan perhaps seeking first-team football, too.

"I've said before that there's a whole host of variables," Critchley told ESPN FC. "I'm sure some of these players will have the opportunity to go out on loan, but then they have to decide, we have to decide, the manager has to decide whether it's the right level [and] club.

"It's not just as simple as: 'Off you go.' Time will tell on that one, we just have to wait and see."

Liverpool U23s will finish 2017 at the top of Premier League 2, having won 10 matches and lost just three so far this season.

"We've got Arsenal after Christmas, so we've got a bit of a break," Critchley added. "The boys will get some time off and recharge themselves physically and mentally and we will see what the new year brings for some of them."

Meanwhile, Real Salt Lake have confirmed former Liverpool youngster Brooks Lennon has joined the MLS side permanently, with a source telling ESPN FC that the forward has moved back to the U.S. on a free transfer.
