Man United's Eric Bailly ready for 'dream' Champions League debut

Manchester United defender Eric Bailly says finally being able to make his Champions League debut is "a dream."

Bailly was suspended for United's first group game with Basel after he was sent off in the semifinal of last season's Europa League.

His red card in the second leg against Celta Vigo also forced himto miss the Europa League final and the UEFA Super Cup defeat to Real Madrid.

But the 23-year-old has now returned from suspension and is set to start against CSKA Moscow on Wednesday, with regular centre-back partner Phil Jones absent.

"With regards to the Champions League, I'm available," Bailly told MUTV. "My suspension has finished now and I am very happy. It's something I've been looking forward to so much. I am content and I hope I will be in the team.

"For me, it is very, very important because I've always dreamed of playing in the Champions League but I have only made the Europa League until now.

"My dream of the Champions League is about to come true. I am happy and I am mentally ready for the game."

Bailly played 11 times in the Europa League last season after making seven appearances in the tournament with Villarreal the previous campaign.

But the Ivory Coast international said he has been watching Champions League games -- including last season's final between Real Madrid and Juventus -- to ensure he is ready for the step up.

He added: "There are Champions League matches that have really wowed me, like when I saw the final between Real Madrid and Juventus. There are plenty of other matches too, it's also something that motivates me.

"To see that tournament is really important for me, to draw experience from it until the moment when I have the opportunity to be involved in the team and play in the Champions League myself."
