Man United's Jose Mourinho has road in his hometown named after him

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has had a road named after him in his hometown of Setubal, Portugal.

The United boss was in Portugal on Tuesday as the Mayor of Setubal, Maria das Dores Meira, renamed "Rua da Saude" as "Avenida Jose Mourinho."

The 54-year-old was honoured for his achievements in football, including lifting the Champions League trophy twice, after starting his coaching career with Vitoria de Setubal's youth team.

Mourinho told reporters: "If you ask me if I appreciate this honour then of course I do.

'If you ask me if I feel emotional about this honour then of course I do. If you ask me if I feel proud about all of your words, and of the 'Jose Mourinho Avenue,' then yes. Yes to all of that."

Despite coaching in Manchester and having a family home in London, Mourinho still returns to Setubal regularly because, he says, it is the one place his "Special One" persona does not follow him.

He said: "I continue to want to visit Setubal, and just be myself. I come to Setubal because I love Setubal. I come to Setubal because I have my mum here.

"I come to Setubal because I feel close to my dad here. I come to Setubal because my wife is another Setubalense, despite not being born here. Because my kids never lived here and they love Setubal the same or even more than me.

"And because I continue to have my friends, and the people in the street who called me 'Ze' [short for Jose]. And who refrain from gimmicks like: 'The Special One.'"
