Torres joined the Serie A giants on a two-year loan deal after falling down the striking ranks at Stamford Bridge.

The Spaniard failed to live up to his £50m transfer from Liverpool in 2011, scoring just 20 Premier League goals in his 110 outings for Chelsea.

But Mourinho insists he only allowed the 30-year-old to leave because he wanted a 'new challenge'.

“With Fernando I have to say that as a person and as a professional there is no discussion,” Mourinho said.

“He is an exceptional guy and professional, but he needed a change. Now he is at Milan and his passion for football will motivate him.

“I am an Inter fan and would have preferred to see him in a Nerazzurri shirt, but because of the affection that we have for Fernando, I hope he does very well with the Rossoneri.”
