The original prognosis was that Giroud would be out for  after he sustained the injury in the Gunners' 2-2 draw against Everton.

However, Wenger believes Giroud has responded well to surgery and could return before the end of the year.

"Olivier Giroud is recovering very well,” Wenger told beIN Sports

“I believe he is ahead of schedule in terms of rehabilitation. The operation went perfectly.”

Danny Welbeck has filled in well for the absent Giroud, and Wenger believes the pair will be able to forge a partnership.

He added: "Welbeck and [Giroud] can play together in the centre or separately.

“Welbeck also played on one side to Manchester United. Welbeck played in the same team with [Wayne] Rooney and [Robin] van Persie. He can play down the sides.”
