Goals from Eden Hazard and Diego Costa extended Mourinho's unbeaten streak over Wenger to 12 games.

And the Gunners boss could not hide his frustrations at Stamford Bridge, marching over to Mourinho and pushing him after just 20 minutes.

While Wenger initially defended himself, he has now admitted his regret at the incident.

"I regret every sign of violence and I apologise, but that's a part of games where everything is manic," he French TV show Telefoot.

"It's not a way to behave on a football field and I shouldn't have reacted like that.

"We have quite a substantial past. Did Mourinho provoke me? That is how I felt.

"But I did not enter his technical area."

After the match, Mourinho insisted Wenger had come into his area while trying to urge the referee to send Gary Cahill off for a tackle on Alexis Sanchez.

Last night the Chelsea boss reiterated that he had done nothing wrong.

"I have no words to explain what everybody saw in those images," Mourinho said.
