Lukas Podolski scores twice for Arsenal on Tuesday night

Podolski played 90 minutes in Arsenal's 4-1 win at Galatasaray on Tuesday night and scored twice to put his name forward for a start against Newcastle this weekend.

It was the striker's first full game since mid September and the Germany international insists he wants regular starts.

“I had the chance to play today and I always want to score, give assists and play well," he told arsenal.com.

"For me it was important to play 90 minutes and keep going. It is not always easy to come in and do well so it was good for me to do that.”

It is a competition for places that is difficult

Arsene Wenger

Unfortunately for Podolski, Wenger has stressed he is not willing to dramatically change his regular XI to accommodate the 29-year-old.

"It is a competition for places that is difficult," Wenger said. 'I had (Danny) Welbeck, (Alexis) Sanchez and (Olivier) Giroud at home and you can only play a certain number of strikers.

"He came back later from the World Cup but he is now coming back to a very strong level."

Podolski has been linked with a move to Inter in recent weeks and last month laughed off suggestions of jumping ship to rivals Tottenham.
