Danny Welbeck won't face his former club Manchester United on Sunday

The England international first returned to Old Trafford in the 2-1 FA Cup quarter-final victory in March, scoring the Gunners’ winner.

Welbeck, who has eight goals to his name this term, joined the Emirates in the summer for £16million.

However, Wenger will be without the 24-year-old for Sunday’s vital clash against the Red Devils, with a top-three place up for grabs.

A knee problem has kept Welbeck out of action for the last two games against Hull and Swansea, but Wenger believes his return isn’t far away .

“Welbeck is short a fraction but is not far away from returning,” Wenger said.

“I would have loved to have him available but we will have to do without him.”
