Sterling has been heavily linked with a move away from Anfield this summer and Manchester City have been credited with a strong interest.

Arsenal and Chelsea have also been monitoring the 20-year-old, who has already turned down a £90,000-a-week deal with the Reds.

Sterling's agent Aidy Ward gave an explosive interview to The London Evening Standard yesterday, in which he said his client wouldn't sign a new deal even if he was offered £900,000 a week.

Showdown talks between club and player were supposed to take place today, however they have since been shelved.

And Wenger aimed a dig at Sterling's agent, claiming it is better to tackle delicate matters in a calm and rational way.

"I don't want to single out people. Discretion is the best way," Wenger said.
