Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger believes Calum Chambers’ “education” as central midfielder could see him play in place of the injured Francis Coquelin.

Coquelin is out for at least two months with a knee injury and with numbers in midfield becoming depleted, Chambers could be forced to play in a new role.

But Wenger feels the youngster is capable of developing in central midfield.

“Calum Chambers has been educated as a central midfielder,” Wenger said.

“He has a big stature, good technique, good vision as well.

“He has played in defensive positions so I think he can develop in the future in a position like defensive midfield.

“It is very important to balance our team, so the defensive role and the efficiency in this position is very important, because we are a team who like to go forward.

“All teams needs a strong, reliable player in every defensive aspect.”

Alexis Sanchez is the only Arsenal player nominated for UEFA.com users’ Team of the Year 2015 poll.

The Chilean is one of just five players from the Premier League who were selected for their performances for a European club or national team in 2015.

Fans have until January 5 to register their vote with the final XI revealed on January 8.

Arsenal are in a three club fight to sign Alexandre Pato in January, according to reports.

The Brazilian striker is on loan at Sao Paulo from Corinthians but is likely to leave in the new year.

The Evening Standard claim the 26-year-old is being offered to the Gunners, Liverpool and Spurs.

And an offer of around £11million is understood to be enough to capture the former AC Milan forward.
