Chelsea News: Mourinho on dropping Costa, Drogba rejected offer, Kane contract talks

EXPRESS SPORT brings you the latest news and gossip coming out of Stamford Bridge.

Diego Costa - Spotlight on

Jose Mourinho has cited Diego Costa’s ‘lack of confidence’ as the fundamental reason as to why he didn’t start against Tottenham.

Costa was relegated to the bench for the lunchtime clash at White Hart Lane yesterday and didn’t make it onto the pitch.

The Spaniard at one point appeared to throw his bib in Mourinho’s direction.

And when discussing why he didn’t start Costa, Mourinho told BT Sport: “It's the first time that Diego is on the bench unless he was on the bench for some little injury.

"I think it's also normal. He's playing every match, and things are not going really well for his confidence.”

Didier Drogba admitted he was contacted by West Ham before he joined Chelsea in 2004.

The former Ivory Coast international signed for the Blues in a £24million deal and went on to attain legendary status.

But speaking about why a move to West Ham didn’t happen, Drogba told Sky Sports: “I'd just arrived at the club and they [West Ham] came to my house and spoke, but it didn't happen. I wasn't ready to go.”

Harry Kane is in talks over a new contract with Tottenham

Tottenham have begun contract talks with Harry Kane over a new deal, according to reports.

Chelsea and Manchester United have both hovering around Kane, with both keen to strengthen their respective attacks.

But Goal.com claim Spurs have started talks over a new double-your-money deal with Kane’s representatives.

Kane signed a new deal £35,000-a-week deal back in February, but Spurs are prepared to offer him £70,000-a-week.
