Arsenal News: Wenger on Elneny, Sanchez fitness, Walcott's 10 years, Leicester fear

Arsene Wenger has revealed why Arsenal splashed the cash on Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Elneny.

The Gunners confirmed the arrival of Elneny yesterday from Basel for £5million and he could be included in the squad for Premier League clash with Stoke on Sunday.

“He’s a defensive midfielder who can contribute in an area where we are short," said Wenger. " He is also a promising player who has already adapted to Europe, he is not straight from Egypt to England - he has played three years in Switzerland.

Arsenal's French boss has finally acknowledged the threat of Leicester in their quest for the title, with the Foxes level on points with the Gunners at the summit of the Premier League.

Wenger said: “To be completely honest with you I thought they might not last. But I have changed my opinion today because their remarkable consistency makes them one of the contenders.

“When the bubble bursts, most of the time it’s before Christmas or during the Christmas period. They didn’t. So I believe you have to count Leicester.”
