Arsenal boss Wenger sends message to England fans about Welbeck's Euro 2016 chances

ARSENE WENGER has pledged to England fans that he will boost their Euro 2016 chances by getting Danny Welbeck up and firing just in time for the finals.

The Arsenal striker is set to make his first start for 10 months in the Emirates FA Cup clash with Hull today after he returned to action last Sunday and scored the late winner in the 2-1 win over top-of-the-table Leicester.

But Wenger feels it will still be a few months before the 25-year-old is firing on all cylinders - perfect timing as Roy Hodgson draws up his final battle plans for France.

However, as he feels his way back to match fitness after initially damaging his knee in a goalless draw with Chelsea on April 26, Wenger says that Arsenal fans will just have to be patient.

"Let's not be too quick as well as let's not forget that he has been out for ten months," he said. "You can't switch it on like that. It will take him two or three months to be in a bit in and out and come back completely to sharpness.

"I will prepare him for you for the European Championships!"

By then, though, Wenger feels he will be stronger than he was before and ready to fulfil his potential in the prime of his career.

"Danny can get a lot better," said Wenger. "He is 25-years-old, physically he's back to his best and I believe the best is to come."
