Arsene Wenger has claimed money is not an issue for Arsenal when signing a centre-back

Arsenal have been linked with a number of centre-backs following long-term injuries to Per Mertesacker and Gabriel.

Valencia's Shkodran Mustafi and Fenerbahce's Simon Kjaer have both been touted as potential replacements but any deal is yet to materialise.

Reports from Spain have suggested because Arsenal are not willing to meet Valencia's £30million asking price.

However, Wenger today dismissed claims that money is an issue in his press conference ahead of Saturday's trip to Leicester (5.30pm).

"I believe it's better if I don't talk about individual players, but we are ready to spend the money we have," Wenger said.

"It is very difficult to identify people and you have many examples of people in England who spend huge money on centre-backs and not made it.

"It's important to spend money the right way - it's not my money."

Wenger was forced to play inexperienced duo Rob Holding and Calum Chambers at the back last weekend but Arsenal suffered a humiliating 4-3 defeat to Liverpool.
