Chelsea are eyeing a move for Germany international Antonio Rudiger

Blues boss Antonio Conte remains on the lookout for defensive reinforcements.

The Italian brought both David Luiz and Marcos Alonso to Chelsea during the summer.

But he still wants to sign at least one central defender in January.

And now the Daily Mail claim the Blues are planning a £35m swoop for Roma's Rudiger.

Conte is a long-term admirer of the 23-year-old Germany international, and was linked with a move for him last summer.

But a deal failed to materialise after the defender suffered a serious knee injury before Euro 2016.

However, with the centre-back now fully fit Conte will apparently make another move to bring the former Stuttgart star to Stamford Bridge.

But the Daily Mail add the Blues face competition from Manchester United.

United boss Jose Mourinho is supposedly on the lookout for defensive additions amid concerns that Eric Bailly suffered a knee injury in the 4-0 defeat at Chelsea yesterday.

"I am afraid it is a bad injury,” Mourinho said after the game. "It is in his knee, the ligament area. He feels it is really bad."

Chelsea have also been linked with moves for English duo Michael Keane and Ben Gibson.
