Jose Mourinho splashed out £26million to bring Henrikh Mkhitaryan to Manchester United from Borussia Dortmund in the summer.

But Mkhitaryan has failed to hit the heights at Old Trafford, making just six appearances for United so far.

Mkhitaryan will start for Manchester United against Feyenoord in the Europa League on Thursday (8.05pm) after failing to make the squad for the 1-1 draw with Arsenal.

And Mourinho has admitted the 27-year-old is not best pleased.

“Obviously, he is not happy,” Mourinho said.

“But he is transforming his frustration in a good way which is to close the mouth and work hard and try to adapt."

Mkhitaryan’s last appearance for United came during their 2-1 Europa League defeat at Fenerbahce earlier this month.

Jose Mourinho paid £26m to sign Henrikh Mkhitaryan for Manchester United

He starred for Armenia in their 2-1 World Cup qualifier win over Montenegro during the international break but was left out against Arsenal by Mourinho.

"I told him, ‘this was not the game for you, I don't think you need 10 or 20 minutes from the bench, I think you need a good game and you need to either start or if not to come (on) for the second half'," the former Chelsea boss said.

"He needs less pressure and better conditions for him to express his qualities.”
