Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho discusses transfers ahead of tomorrow's 11pm deadline

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has so far not had a player from his squad quit Old Trafford for the Far East.

There are reports, however, that Ashley Young could be sold before the Chinese transfer window closes at the end of February.

China has invested huge resources into football in recent years and clubs have bene urged to spend big on European and South American talent.

Chelsea this month sold Oscar and John Obi Mikel to China, while Carlos Tevez quit boyhood club Boca Juniors to pick up around £600,000 in the CSL.

And while Mourinho admits he is worried about the amount of money on offer, he says it is not for him to judge players who do make the move.

“If you are negotiating a new contract with one of your players, and you offer him £5m per year and they offer £25m, then you have a big problem,” Mourinho told GQ.

“Maybe the player takes £5m because he prefers football.

“Or £25m because he prefers money.”

Young, 31, is said to have offers to join three Premier League sides as well interest from China.

The former Aston Villa ace has been at United since 2011 but has found regular game time hard to come by this season.

And Mourinho sees the logic behind elder players moving to China for one last pay cheque.

“I am worried, because they can offer contracts that are impossible to offer in Europe,” he added.

“But in the end the player who wants to go is a player that maybe you don’t want to keep.

“Imagine the guy who is 24 or 25, and he wants to go? At 24, or 25? OK, goodbye, be happy…

“The player who is 31 or 32, and they go for a few years and then come back with a bank account full, OK.

“But when they are young and they have a chance to be in the best competitions, and they still decide to go, well maybe it is better that they go.”
