The Portuguese boss is keen to wrap up a deal for the winger and Express Sport understands the Red Devils are confident in finalising his transfer within the next 48 hours.

Inter have been holding out for £50million for the Croatia international but United are set to sign him for £47m.

Perisic has left Inter’s training camp in Riscone di Brunico and returned to Croatia to sort out his personal affairs.

But the 28-year-old is due to report to pre-season training with Inter today and the club expect him to attend.

We don't have our door closed, we are not happy with just Lukaku and Lindelof, we need more

United won their second pre-season match in their tour of the States early this morning as they ran out 2-1 winners over Real Salt Lake.

Romelu Lukaku and Henrikh Mkhitaryan both got on the scoresheet for the visitors but with Perisic closing in on a move to Old Trafford, journalists were quick to ask Mourinho for an update at full-time.

However, he was coy on his answer and when he was asked about Perisic, he replied: "No idea."

The 54-year-old admitted on Friday that he still expected the club to sign two more players having already added Lukaku and Victor Lindelof to his ranks.

Ivan Perisic is edging closer to joining Manchester United

"We don't have our door closed, we are not happy with just Lukaku and Lindelof, we need more," Mourinho said. "We wanted four, so I would say 50% of the job done.

"But I don't want to say that because everything it's so difficult, I would not like to be in Ed Woodward's position negotiating because everything is really difficult.

"So maybe we don't get two, we get one, but we need one player to give us more options, the squad needs that balance, we have players that belong to the squad but cannot play for the next three or four months, Marcos Rojo, Ashley Young, Luke Shaw, if Zlatan stays we have three or four players that only by the end of the year can be back to football.

"So we need two more players I would say, at least one, but I don't want to say [Nemanja] Matic or any other name because I don't think it's correct."
