JOSE MOURINHO is hopeful Ander Herrera has not sustained a serious injury after he was forced off in Manchester United's pre-season clash with Real Madrid.

Jose Mourinho comments on Ander Herrera's injury

Manchester United took on Real Madrid last night in the fourth game of their USA pre-season tour, winning on penalties after a 1-1 draw at the Levi's Stadium.

However the win was marred by an injury to Ander Herrera who was forced off 10 minutes into the second half.

The Spain international had just been brought on as Jose Mourinho made wholesale changes at the break, bringing on eight players.

However, Herrera was soon hobbling off the field clutching his side and Mourinho has admitted he is concerned about the severity of the injury.

Marcus Rashford ROASTS Ander Herrera during training

“I want to wait and see what it is," the boss said after the match.

“I always say to the players that you don't risk anything in friendly matches.

"If you feel something is coming, even if it is a little injury, get off because the result is not important.

"It was very painful, it was in front of the bench, it was a bad contact. Maybe it is his ribs but I don't know."

Herrera is the second player United have lost to injury on the tour, with Juan Mata coming off against Real Salt Lake last week with an ankle problem.

And Mourinho voiced his concern, admitting it must have been painful to force the 27-year-old off the field.

"I just feel sorry for one more injury which I hope is not important," he added.

"For Ander to come off after 10 minutes, it has to be painful but sometimes painful doesn't mean there is a real problem, so let's wait."
