Liverpool failed in bid to sign Real Madrid star Marco Asensio this summer - report

LIVERPOOL reportedly failed in a bid to sign Real Madrid star Marco Asensio this summer.

Liverpool have already had a busy transfer window, signing Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Dominic Solanke.

However, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp knows more reinforcements are needed if they are to finally win the Premier League title.

RB Leipzig’s Naby Keita and Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk have both been tipped to make the move to Merseyside.

But Jurgen Klopp has so far failed in his efforts to sign the duo, with both clubs demanding huge transfer fees to part with their star assets.

Real Madrid rejected Liverpool's bid for Marco Asensio

And Spanish outlet Diario Gol claim Marco Asensio was another player who Liverpool have tried to sign.

The Spain international starred for Real Madrid last term, scoring 10 goals as the club won La Liga and the Champions League.

Manchester United and Arsenal are both supposedly admirers of the 21-year-old.

But Liverpool apparently made the biggest offer to lure him away from the Bernabeu.

Asensio looks unattainable at present with Madrid keen to keep him for the future - meaning not even a huge bid could tempt them into selling.

Diario Gol add Bayern Munich also enquired about him but their approach was knocked back.

Speaking back in April, Asensio outlined his desire to stay at Real despite spending much of the time stuck behind Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema in the pecking order last season.

“In the end I do not think about other teams or if I could play in other teams, I always think about Madrid,” he said.

“I found it difficult at first, but you have to work in the training sessions and be prepared to take advantage of the opportunity when it comes.

“I already said that I wanted to stay and that I was going to fight for minutes.”
