PHILIPPE COUTINHO has not handed in a transfer request at Liverpool - but his representatives have held talks with Barcelona.

The Reds' star playmaker has become a top target for the Catalan giants.

And Barcelona have already seen a £72million bid rejected as they intensify their pursuit of the Brazilian.

The La Liga club are growing in confidence they can strike a deal for Coutinho this summer.

Despite Liverpool insisting he is not for sale, the Daily Mail claim Barcelona sporting director Robert Fernandez and lawyer Andre Curry have held discussions with Coutinho's representatives in London.

Those talks occurred prior to the Barcelona chiefs linking up with the team in Washington on their US pre-season tour.

However, that has not led to Coutinho asking to leave Anfield.

The Reds are adamant he is not pushing to go, following Spanish radio reports claiming the opposite.

Further reports in Spain have suggested Barcelona's Ivan Rakitic could be used as part of a deal for Coutinho.

But the Daily Mail add the 29-year-old's camp are not aware of any such negotiations.

It is said Croatia star Rakitic is very happy at the Nou Camp, having signed a new four-year contract in March.

Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp has maintained Liverpool are not looking to offload any of their star players, including Coutinho.

"Phil is a key player for us, no doubt. I’m not surprised that any club is interested in players, that’s how it is," Klopp said.

"But a very important message, maybe — we are not a selling club."
