LIONEL MESSI reportedly thinks Barcelona have struck a deal for Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho.

Sublime assist shows why Barcelona want Liverpool's Coutinho

Barcelona have turned their attentions to Liverpool playmaker Coutinho after missing out on Paris Saint-Germain's Marco Verratti.

Ernesto Valverde had earmarked the Italy international as his No1 choice to rejuvenate the Catalan giants' ageing midfield.

However, PSG's decision to go all out for Neymar means that deal is now off the table.

Consequently, Barcelona have intensified their efforts to lure Coutinho away from Anfield, with the Liverpool star now Valverde's top target.

Express Sport understands they are willing to pay £80million to get a deal over the line, though Jurgen Klopp has repeatedly insisted the Brazil international will not be leaving Merseyside this summer.

However, Spanish outlet Diario Gol claims Messi thinks a deal has been completed.

Liverpool have always adopted a tough stance regarding their No10 but, as proven by their capture of Luis Suarez in 2014, Barcelona have the financial muscle and pulling power to pull off a transfer.

Messi has supposedly told close friends that Coutinho has signed and the transfer is only being held up because of Liverpool's participation in the Champions League.

The Reds have qualifying matches later this month and, only after that, will they reportedly let the player go.

It looks to be a case of one in one out at Barcelona as Neymar edges closer towards a truly sensational £196m move to Paris Saint-Germain.

The Brazilian is growing increasing likely to make the move to France, where he will join compatriots Dani Alves, Marquinhos, and Lucas Moura.
