The Red Devils have been in talks for months over the transfer of the talented winger.

Inter have being playing hardball over a deal and are holding out for £48.5million.

They are also requesting Anthony Marital be included in any move that would see the Frenchman go on loan - an idea that Jose Mourinho does not entertain.

United are yet to meet their demands but ESPN claim they are confident they can agree a fee.

Ivan Perisic is keen on a move to Manchester United

Reports have suggested the Serie A side are preparing to offer him a new and improved contract in a bid to convince him to stay.

But ESPN say United don't believe Inter are keen to keep hold of him and instead are struggling to find an adequate replacement, which is proving to be the main stumbling block in them wrapping up a deal for Perisic.

Inter boss Luciano Spalletti recently admitted the club were running out of time to bring in a new player.

He said last week: “There has been no more significant contact in the last few weeks.

“As far as I’m concerned there’s nothing more to say.

“The more days that go by, the more difficult it becomes for us to replace him and therefore I would strongly oppose his departure.”

The Croatia international, who scored 11 goals and provided eight assists in Serie A last season, is under contract with Inter until 2020.
