MANCHESTER UNITED have agreed to let Cameron Borthwick-Jackson join Leeds United on loan.

Borthwick-Jackson, 20, played 14 times for United in the 2015-16 campaign before spending last season at Wolves.

He had not been involved in United's pre-season and ESPN say Jose Mourinho has done a deal to send the defender to Championship side Leeds.

Borthwick-Jackson may go straight into the Leeds squad for their Championship opener with Bolton on Saturday.

The youngster has failed to hit the heights since making his debut under Louis van Gaal and was last year criticised by Wolves boss Paul Lambert for falling short of fitness standards.

He said: “I think Cameron is falling short at the minute.

“He would have to show a lot more. He’s doing all right in training but there’s more he has to do.

“It’s a bit of lack of fitness as well, even though he’s played in the under-23s. At this moment in time he needs more.”

Northwick-Jackson is at home at left-back but can also slot it at centre-half.
