JOSE MOURINHO is hell-bent on spending his way to success at Manchester United, according to Michael Owen.

Mourinho splashed out around £150million after taking over at United last summer, bringing in Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Eric Bailly and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

And ahead of his second season at Old Trafford Mourinho has topped that spree by landing Romelu Lukaku, Nemanja Matic and Victor Lindelof.

And former Red Devils striker Owen thinks his old club will be a force to be reckoned with under Mourinho this season.

“Mourinho seems intent on buying more and more players,” Owen told Express Sport.

“Matic is very much a signing for Mourinho's time, his birthday was this week [he turned 29], it's not an investment for 10 years down the line, he's buying something for the next four or five years.

“There's a signal of intent, it's the here and the now that's important for them as well as the future in buying someone like Lukaku [24].

“But they’ve strengthened again, they needed to. They were well off the pace last season and definitely expect a better season off United this year.”
