Cristiano Ronaldo is keen to return to England

Cristiano Ronaldo left Manchester United for Real Madrid in 2009 where his career has since reached dizzying new heights.

However, many United supporters have held onto hope that he would one day return to Old Trafford once his La Liga days are over.

Ronaldo is known to have enjoyed living in the UK and has spoken fondly of his time at United working under Sir Alex Ferguson in the past.

And the 32-year-old has given United fans cause for exciement this week by admitting he fully intends to return to England.

Speaking at his court case for alleged tax fraud on Monday, Ronaldo said: "I never had any problem in England which is why I'd like to return.

“I always paid my taxes, always. In England and In Spain. And I always  paid. As you know, I can not hide anything, it would be ridiculous on my part to do such a thing.

“I am an open book. you don’t need to do anything but type my name into Google and everything about Cristiano comes out.

“For example, Forbes magazine releases all of my earnings.”

He then went on to explain the differences, as he saw them, between the tax systems in the UK and in Spain.

"I remember when I arrived in England they told me that things work like this," he added.

"When I arrived in Manchester as an 18-year-old they told me that [the tax arrangements used] were the best mechanism I could have, just as for the other players.

"In Spain, the indication was to pay more to avoid having problems."

"Whenever I go to a place, I pay what I have to pay, because the truth always becomes known."
