MANCHESTER CITY are still hopeful Alexis Sanchez will join from Arsenal before the end of the transfer window.

Pep Guardiola wants another top forward at the Etihad and a reunion with Sanchez is high on his agenda.

Arsene Wenger has remained adamant Arsenal will not sell, especially to a Premier League rival.

Sanchez has now returned to training with the Gunners and is preparing for the new season, despite having less than 12 months left on his contract.

Arsenal appear ready to let the 28-year-old run down his deal, but City are happy to wait.

The Daily Star say City believe Alexis Sanchez wants to move to the Etihad.

And they will subsequently leave the door open to a switch until the window shuts in just under four weeks.

City are apparently hopeful Arsenal will eventually decide to cash in on Sanchez.

The Daily Star add a fee of around £45million could yet be enough for City to sign the Chile international, with Arsenal’s alternative being a free transfer next year.

The Gunners would have no power over Sanchez’s next club either by next summer if he refuses to put pen to paper on fresh terms.

The board back me 100 per cent to make the decisions on the technical front

Wenger, though, says Arsenal’s board are backing him over his stance on Sanchez.

Ahead of the Community Shield today against Chelsea (2pm), in which Sanchez is set to start from the bench, Wenger said: “The board back me 100 per cent to make the decisions on the technical front.

“That means which players stay or go.”

While Sanchez is wanted by Guardiola, City’s other major target up front is Monaco sensation Kylian Mbappe.
