Gareth Bale to Man Utd: Real Madrid star urged to turn down Jose Mourinho by Ian Rush

REAL MADRID superstar Gareth Bale should reject Manchester United this summer, according to Wales compatriot Ian Rush.

Bale has been heavily linked with a move away from Real Madrid in recent weeks as Zinedine Zidane’s side look to raise funds for Monaco’s teenage sensation Kylian Mbappe.

Manchester United are long term admirers of Bale and have emerged as the most likely destination should the 28-year-old Welshman leave the Bernabeu this summer.

But Liverpool legend Rush has urged Bale to stay at the La Liga and European champions for the time being as a return to England now would be a step down.

When asked by The Mirror about United’s interest, Rush said: “If he’s happy then Gareth should stay in Spain, 100 per cent. He has improved as a player.

"He’s got great players like Cristiano Ronaldo to keep learning from. There are not many better clubs in the world than Real Madrid.

“I know that if he decided to come to England he would have the choice of all the top clubs here.

"Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool would all want him.

“There’s always a time and a place to come back but I don’t think it should be now. He is still relatively young.”

United manager Jose Mourinho is in the market for a new wide man this summer, but he recently admitted trying to lure Bale back to the Premier League would be a waste of time.

"He was never on my list," Mourinho said of the 28-year-old. "It is clear Bale likes Madrid.

"He is in a very good situation. I never felt a desire from him to leave. So why lose time and energy on that?"

Bale has won La Liga, the Copa del Rey and three Champions League titles during his four years at the Bernabeu, scoring 67 goals and providing 51 assists in the process.
