ARSENE WENGER says it's a dream to make the Arsenal fans happy but wants unity from the supporters through thick and thin.

Arsenal recorded victory over Chelsea in a dramatic penalty shoot-out to win the Community Shield today.

"It is a dream to make the fans happy, a difficult dream but we try hard," Wenger said.

"I would like for them to stand behind the team as we might go through some very good periods and some not so good periods.

"We want to be united and together throughout the season."

After a nervy first half, Chelsea came out the blocks quickest after the break as Victor Moses fired his side in front after 52 seconds.

But the big turning point in the game came when referee Bobby Madley sent off Pedro with 10 minutes remaining.

The forward was late and high on Mohamed Elneny, raking the Arsenal man's Achilles with his studs.

Arsenal scored from the resulting free-kick as Sead Kolasinac headed home Granit Xhaka's cross.

And following missed spot-kicks from Thibaut Courtois and Alvaro Morata, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Olivier Giroud converted in the penalty shoot-out.

And Wenger was delighted his side pulled off the win over Chelsea to give the fans something to celebrate.

Wenger said: "Well, I don't know if it [Pedro] was a sending off or not but at that moment we were dominating.

"We had some difficult moments at the start of the second half but after that we dominated. We always looked dangerous."

"Every game is a battle in the Premier League, like today."
