Arsenal, Tottenham and Everton will miss out on the top four - Michael Owen

ARSENAL, Tottenham and Everton will miss out on the top four this season, according to former Liverpool and Manchester United striker Michael Owen.

Ivan Gazidis: Arsenal’s ambition is to win the Premier League

With the transfer window approaching its closing stages, attentions are beginning to turn to the new Premier League season.

Everton have made a splash this summer by shelling out over £100million on new recruits such as Michael Keane, Jordan Pickford, Sandro Ramirez and Davy Klaassen.

Arsenal, meanwhile, have brought in Alexandre Lacazette and Sead Kolasinac as they aim to win the title for the first time in 14 years.

Tottenham are the only club in the whole of the top flight not to sign anybody, despite a stunning season last term that saw them narrowly miss out on the title to Chelsea.

And Owen has named Spurs - in addition to Arsenal and Everton - as the clubs he expects to miss out on the top four.

“Everton have certainly spent over this summer window and could still add more, but it’s going to be hard to break into the top four this season,” he told the Premier League’s official website.

“In previous years we have seen the top four move away from the rest of the league, but now there is a 'big seven' who will push each other all the way.

“Tottenham Hotspur are a side I really rate. I have been impressed with Mauricio Pochettino since his move into the Premier League and he has assembled a strong squad, but they have lost a world-class full-back in Kyle Walker and not added. Their home form was near perfect last season and the move to Wembley will affect that.

Despite spending big, Michael Owen thinks Everton will miss out on the top four

“Arsenal should be concerned that a bad start to the season will have a negative impact.

“The signing of Alexandre Lacazette has been a positive, but they will need to keep hold of Alexis Sanchez to really signal their intent.”

Owen did, however, tip Everton new boy Jordan Pickford to endure a fine first campaign at Goodison Park.

“Jordan Pickford will be in the limelight this season following his move from Sunderland to Everton that made him the most expensive British goalkeeper in history,” he added.
