Ivan Perisic has reportedly been offered a new deal by Inter Milan

Manchester United have been linked with a move for Ivan Perisic for weeks but have failed to get the deal over the line.

Inter Milan boss Luciano Spalletti has claimed the deal is now 'closed' and claimed he would resist any late attempts for the Croatia international to leave.

And according to Italian journalist Niccolo Ceccarini, the San Siro club are backing the manager by offering Perisic an improved contract.

The 28-year-old's current deal runs until June 2020 and Inter are said to have approached him with a renewal.

Luciano Spalletti: Conversation of Perisic to Man United is 'over'

When asked about the futures of Persisic and Chelsea-linked Antonio Candreva on Twitter, Ceccarini replied: "Perisic has been proposed a renewal and Candreva will not move."

The news will come as a relief to Inter fans who have been overshadowed by their rivals AC Milan in the transfer market this summer.

Speaking last month about Perisic's future, Spalletti said: "There was a contact a few weeks ago [with United], then the negotiation stopped, so for me it is closed.

"The more days that pass, the more difficult it becomes for us to find a replacement of his calibre.

"I'll strongly oppose his sale."

Perisic was a key player for Inter last term, scoring 11 goals and providing 12 assists in all competitions.
