Gareth Bale to Man Utd: Ryan Giggs backs Real Madrid star to join… but not this summer

RYAN GIGGS has backed Real Madrid star Gareth Bale to join Manchester United one day, but doubts it will happen this summer.

Bale has been heavily linked with a move away from Real Madrid in recent weeks as Zinedine Zidane’s side look to raise funds for Monaco’s teenage sensation Kylian Mbappe.

Manchester United are long term admirers of Bale and have emerged as the most likely destination should the 28-year-old leave the Bernabeu this summer.

United great Giggs can't see his Welsh compatriot leaving the La Liga and European champions any time soon, but reckons a switch to Old Trafford could one day be on the cards.

"I don't think it will happen in this transfer window but you can see it happening one day," he said.

"If Bale ever comes back to England there are very few clubs who would be able to afford him or he would want to play for.

"After Real Madrid only a couple of clubs can really compete for prestige or history.

"That's why the speculation happens every year but I maintain what I've always said, I think he's happy at Madrid.

"It's not impossible but he's playing at one of the biggest clubs in the world.

"And if he's enjoying himself and playing regularly I don't see it happening."

United face Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup final in Skopje tomorrow before their Premier League campaign starts at home to West Ham on Sunday.
