GABRIEL is expected to stay at Arsenal this summer despite attracting interest from Valencia, according to the bookies.

Gabriel joined Arsenal in January 2015 but has so far failed to cement a place in Arsene Wenger's first team.

The Brazilian started just 15 Premier League games last season, with Wenger favouring Shkodran Mustafi and Laurent Koscienly in the heart of defence.

He has been linked with a return to La Liga in recent weeks with Valencia said to be keen on landing the former Villarreal defender.

But the 26-year-old looks set to remain at the Emirates this summer, with bookmakers Betfair pricing Gabriel at 4/9 to stay put.

Gabriel missed Arsenal's Community Shield victory over Chelsea yesterday due to a serious knee injury he picked up towards the end of last season.

Valencia manager Marcelino confirmed over the weekend that he is interested in signing Gabriel, along with Jeison Murillo and Ivan Marcano.

“I think they’re possible,” Marcelino is quoted as saying by OA Sport. “We’re talking about important players who already know our League.

"They speak Spanish, and that’s important, so their adaptation would be very quick.”

Valencia are keen to replace Eliaquim Mangala this summer after the 26-year-old Frenchman returned to Manchester City following last season's loan spell.
