Cristiano Ronaldo may influence Gareth Bale's move to Man Utd - Steven Gerrard

CRISTIANO RONALDO may have an influence in Gareth Bale's potential move to Manchester United from Real Madrid.

Gerrard and McManaman: Bale could leave Madrid if Mbappe signs

That is the opinion of pundit and former Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard.

Bale has been linked with an exit from Real Madrid to raise funds for the purchase of Monaco teenage sensation Kylian Mbappe.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho yesterday claimed he would talk to Bale following tonight's European Super Cup game if he was not part of the Real team.

Bale was named in the starting line-up by boss Zinedine Zidane but his future was still the topic of discussion in the BT Sport studio ahead of the match.

Gerrard agreed Real will have to offload a forward player if they signed Mbappe but reckons Ronaldo's relationship with Benzema, and the Frenchman's new contract, means it will not be him who leaves.

"I think does Ronaldo have a say in that? (Bale's future)," Gerrard said on BT Sport.

"Because the rumour is that he loves playing with Benzema, you wonder whether that had an impact on the new deal.

Bale struggled with injury and fitness problems at Real Madrid last season and was not fully fit for the Champions League final against Juventus in his home city of Cardiff at the start of June.

Gerrard says he must make sure he does rectifies that part of his game in order to get the recognition he deserves.

"That's the key, he needs to stay healthy and a bit more robust," Gerrard added.

"I'm sure if he does that it will help his confidence and his form and then you will see his numbers go higher.

"He's a fantastic player, for me he is one of the best players in the world when he is fit and in form. Pace, strong, he gets assists, he gets goals."
