Zinedine Zidane then picked the 28-year-old in his starting line-up and Bale did not disappoint, producing a lively display against his admirers.

And, speaking to BT Sport after the game, Mourinho ruled out snapping up Bale this summer.

"I think so," he said referring to whether Bale's inclusion meant he would not be allowed to leave.

"The club wants him, the manager wants him, and, more importantly, he wants the club.

"For me, it is game over. I think now everybody knows he is going to stay."

Bale has now won nine major trophies since signing for Real from Tottenham in the summer of 2013.
