Diego Costa treatment questioned by Martin Keown

06:00: Martin Keown has questioned Chelsea's decision to exile Diego Costa.

"You cannot tell me Chelsea's first XI is stronger without Diego Costa," he told the Daily Mail.

"Alvaro Morata averaged a goal every 88 minutes in La Liga last year but there is a feeling Chelsea missed out on their man in Romelu Lukaku.

"Conte has had to prove he is the top dog in the dressing room but by axing Costa he has put himself under more pressure."

Liverpool can win the title if they sign Van Dijk and keep Coutinho

05:00: Liverpool can win the Premier League if they keep Philippe Coutinho and sign Virgil van Dijk.

That's according to Jamie Redknapp.

"The Liverpool players I talk to call him ‘the little genius’," Redknapp told the Daily Mail.

"Keep Coutinho, get Van Dijk. That’s a title bid right there."

Manchester United do not need Ivan Perisic

04:00: Manchester United do not need Ivan Perisic, according to Jamie Carragher.

"Ivan Perisic is a good player," he told Sky Sports.

"But it doesn't look like that's going to happen,"

"I think they've still got plenty of players who can play in those positions; Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Henrikh Mkhitaryan or Juan Mata."

Romelu Lukaku tipped to impress at Manchester United

03:00: Jamie Redknapp expects Jose Mourinho to turn Romelu Lukaku into the next Didier Drogba at Manchester United.

"With this battering ram up front, United will be very direct this year. Jose Mourinho will be looking to Lukaku to be his Didier Drogba," he told the Daily Mail.

"There are times when the Belgian plays like a raging bull — but has appeared timid and disinterested at times.

"Now he must ditch his reputation as a flat-track bully and terrorise every centre back in the League.

"Lukaku is good friends with Paul Pogba and if they replicate that relationship on the pitch, they can be magnificent."

Arsenal onto a winner with Alexandre Lacazette

02:00: Martin Keown thinks Arsenal may have struck gold with their signing of Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon.

And the former Gunners star reckons he may end up emulating Thierry Henry.

"A goal machine. Wenger has always wanted a striker in the Thierry Henry mould and he may have found that player," he told the Daily Mail.

"He will need time to settle in but Wenger will give him all the support he can."

Alvaro Morata must shine at Chelsea

01:00: Jamie Redknapp says Chelsea new boy Alvaro Morata must hit the ground running at his new club.

"You need Alvaro Morata to start the season well," he told Sky Sports.

"ButI still think - though he's obviously a very talented player - he's a bit of an unknown quantity and he's never really done it anywhere yet.

"You've got to feel that they've got one of the best forwards that the Premier League has seen in Diego Costa, who is unplayable on his day. So he's a big loss."

Southampton might stop Liverpool signing Virgil van Dijk

00:00: Chris Sutton thinks Southampton may stop Liverpool from signing Virgil van Dijk because it would make them look 'spineless.'

"I really like Van Dijk, he’s a top player, a Rolls-Royce of a defender," he told the Daily Mail.

"But if he goes to Liverpool, after all the fuss, that makes Southampton look spineless.

"He’s got five years left on his contract, Southampton could dig in."

Jenas doubts Salah

22:45: Jermaine Jenas doesn’t believe Mohamed Salah is the signing that will secure Liverpool a top-four finish.

“I remember speaking to a couple of Chelsea players about Salah, who spent a couple of years at Stamford Bridge, and they weren’t particularly impressed with him,” he said.

“He has obviously improved since and going on his pre-season performances he looks very sharp. Salah is definitely a good addition to the Liverpool squad, but not necessarily enough to bring them a top-four place.”

Conte to leave Chelsea?

22:19: Antonio Conte could leave Chelsea this season, according to former Blue Chris Sutton.

He told the Daily Mail: "Conte has said that he wants to avoid a 'Mourinho season'.

"I can see him walking. He walked from Juventus when he didn't get his own way.

"If the club are selling Matic from under his nose then it's not looking great."

Gremio give Luan update

22:00: Gremio have insisted Liverpool and Arsenal have made no approach for their star man Luan.

The Brazilian forward has been on the Reds’ radar this summer as Jurgen Klopp looks improve his attacking options, while Arsenal are also said to be in talks over a potential move.

Gremio vice-president Odorico Roman said: "I do not know of any other proposal.

"We had two firm approaches, from Sampdoria and Spartak.

"They were made, but Luan remains as a Gremio player at the moment."

Jenas urges Arsenal to reject Sanchez bids

21:20: : Former Tottenham star Jermaine Jenas believes Arsenal cannot let Alexis Sanchez leave at any price.

“Sanchez and Coutinho fall into the same bracket for me – if you lose them, you might as well pack your bags and go home now. They're too important,” BT Sport pundit Jenas said.

“I hope Arsenal stay strong and say 'we don't need your money, we need you here to get us back where we want to be and then you can go on a free'.

“I think Sanchez is worth that, even if you know you'd get £50million for him now and he'll leave next summer on a free.

“This has happened before to Arsenal – think of Robin van Persie and Cesc Fabregas. Do they want it to happen again?”

Perez holds talks with Dybala

20:30: Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has held secret talks with Juventus star Paulo Dybala, according to Spanish news outlet Don Balon.

The Argentinean is one of Barcelona's top targets this summer after Neymar quit the club in a £200m deal for Paris Saint-Germain.

Zinedine Zidane is said to be a big fan of the player and it comes after reports that Kylian Mbappe has agreed to join PSG.

Van Dijk to Liverpool backed

19:30: Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson thinks Southampton star Virgil van Dijk will eventually end up at Anfield.

"I think they will end up getting Van Dijk," Lawrenson told BBC Sport.

"I have no inside knowledge but it would appear he wants to come to Liverpool.

"He brings quality, can play from the back, which is great, and with four centre-backs - Dejan Lovren, Joel Matip and Ragnar Klavan - it brings competition for places.”

Rose odds cut

18:51: Manchester United and Chelsea have seen their odds slashed by the bookies to sign Tottenham star Danny Rose.

Rose has established himself as one of the top left-backs in the Premier League since Mauricio Pochettino took charge at Tottenham in 2014.

The England international hinted he could leave Tottenham this summer in search of silverware and a pay rise, with Manchester United and Chelsea said to be interested.

And Bookmakers Betfair have responded by slashing United’s odds from 11/2 to 11/8 to sign the 27-year-old before the window shuts.

While Chelsea’s odds to sign Rose have been cut from 11/2 to 5/1, with Blues manager Antonio Conte desperate to add another wing-back to his squad.

A statement issued to the Frankfurt Stock Exchange read: “Borussia Dortmund has held talks with FC Barcelona regarding the possible transfer of the BVB players Ousmane Dembele to FC Barcelona.

“During this meeting, the representatives of FC Barcelona submitted a bid which did not correspond to the player’s extraordinary, footballing and other abilities nor to the present economic market situation of the European transfer market. BVB therefore rejected this offer.

“As there is no other offer from FC Barcelona to date, there is currently no transfer of the player to FC Barcelona and this is not currently likely.”

Jose Mourinho wants a new left-back at Manchester United

Mourinho prioritising left-back

16:50: Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is prioritising the signing of a new left-back before the transfer window shuts.

The Daily Record claim Tottenham star Danny Rose is on Mourinho’s wishlist.

Rose yesterday revealed his frustrations at the current situation at Spurs by stating he should be getting paid more and confirmed he would like a move up north one day.

And Mourinho is reportedly considering offering Shaw as part of a deal to bring Rose to Old Trafford.

Shaw has frustrated Mourinho with his application and attitude and he could be of interest to Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy, who is a big fan of hiring young talent with future resale value.

Coutinho set for Liverpool stay

15:58: Barcelona target Philippe Coutinho looks set to stay at Liverpool this summer, according to the bookies.

Coutinho is said to be Barcelona’s No 1 target this summer to replace Neymar, who left for Paris Saint-Germain in a £200million deal earlier this month.

The Brazil international is thought to be keen on joining the La Liga giants, but Liverpool have no interest in selling their star man.

Barca have had a £90million bid turned down for the 25-year-old.

And bookmakers Betfair have responded by pricing Coutinho at 8/11 to remain at Anfield for the upcoming season, having been at odds of 2/1 earlier this week.

Barca were heavy 1/6 favourites to land the former Inter Milan playmaker a few days ago but have now drifted to 1/1.

West Ham lodge Carvalho bid

15:10: West Ham have made a club-record £27.1million bid to sign William Carvalho from Sporting Lisbon.

According to The Telegraph, an offer has now been submitted for the Portugal international worth the equivalent of €30m.

Carvalho has a buy-out clause in his contract of £36.1m and Sporting are attempting to hold out for that figure.

However, it is said they are aware Carvalho is now keen on the move to the Premier League.

Following negotiations that have been going on for over a week, with representatives currently in Lisbon attempting to seal the deal, West Ham are optimistic Carvalho can be signed.

Despite the east London side being unwilling to pay as much as £36.1m, talks remain positive between the two clubs.

Ross Barkley could STAY at Everton

14:35: Ronald Koeman has revealed Ross Barkley could stay at Everton despite his transfer stand-off.

“I don’t have any update. There is no offer on the table for Ross, that means he will stay at Everton," Koeman said ahead of Everton's clash with Stoke.

“The player has a one-year contract and if there is no offer - and maybe the club will not accept the offer because he is a good, young, English player.

"If somebody wants to buy Ross it’s a big deal.

“If there is no interest then he will stay and be part of the team.

“I respect every personal ambition of every player. Still he is training with Everton, he is part of the team and training in a good way.”

Dembele to join Barcelona

14:10: Ousmane Dembele is set to join Barcelona TODAY after failing to report to Dortmund training.

Discussing the player in a press conference today, Dortmund manager Peter Bosz said: "Dembele didn't show up for training today.

"We don't know where he is.

"We couldn't reach him today."

L'Equipe claim Dembele will sign for Barca "in the next few hours".

Coutinho deal agreed?

13:54: Liverpool’s owners Fenway Sports Group have agreed a £108.3m deal to sell Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona, according to fresh reports in Spain.

Liverpool rejected a second bid from Barcelona worth £90.3m (€100m) for star man Coutinho last night.

Jurgen Klopp has admitted that ‘no player is not for sale’ in the current market following Neymar’s £200m move to Paris Saint-Germain but is adamant Liverpool ‘are not a selling club’.

But according to Spanish sports paper AS, Liverpool’s owners FSG have given their approval to an agreement of around £120m for Coutinho.

It is said the deal will be £90.2m (€100m) up front with an extra £18.05m (€20m) in add-ons.

Barcelona are willing to include midfielder Andre Gomes in a package deal although Klopp is not thought to be particularly keen.

PSG move for Mbappe

12:15: Kylian Mbappe's agent Jorge Mendes has met representatives from PSG to discuss a summer deal.

PSG are willing to spend a staggering £162MILLION on Mbappe.

Fellow suitors Manchester City and Real Madrid cannot match that fee.

And Gazzetta dello Sport now claim PSG are in the position to do business with Monaco.

Liverpool hold the key - Rodgers

12:00: Brendan Rodgers insists his former club Liverpool hold the power over Philippe Coutinho's future.

"Philippe Coutinho is a world-class player but the power in the position is with Liverpool," Celtic manager Rodgers said.

"Phil has signed a new contract. He's always going to have other clubs that want him.

"But Liverpool don't have to sell him if they don't want to. So the power is very much with them.

"Liverpool's a fantastic club and I know he really enjoys it there. He's got great supporters and a great manager, so I'm sure he would be very happy there."

Spurs should sign Bale - Sherwood

11:45: Tim Sherwood wants Tottenham to buy Gareth Bale.

"Any Tottenham fan would love to get Bale," Sherwood told talkSPORT.

"Don't get three average players for £50m each. Get one special player and give them a lift.

"Perhaps for (chairman Daniel) Levy it is in the back of his mind. I don't believe it will happen if the wages are so high but accumulate it, put it in one pot and sign Gareth Bale.

"Gareth Bale, one of the three or five best players in the world. He will make a difference.

"They will win the league. If (Harry) Kane stays free of injuries they will win the league next season."

Crespo backs Jose for title success

11:30: Former Chelsea striker Hernan Crespo thinks Manchester United will win the Premier League title.

The Argentine, who netted more than 300 goals in his career, has highlighted Jose Mourinho as the main reason behind his prediction.

He told BetStars: “I think Manchester United will win the Premier League because Mourinho has never failed in a second season.

“Jose is one of the best in the world. He’s made history everywhere with Porto, Inter and now he can do it with Manchester United.

“It’s difficult to explain, but when you play with Mourinho, you feel like the best striker in the world. There are two different people with Mourinho.

“The one in front of the camera and another Mourinho in the dressing room.

“I prefer the Mourinho in the dressing room, he’s friendlier. I really like his method of training, his motivation and his passion.”

Barca preparing THIRD Coutinho bid

11:15: Barcelona are expected to make a third bid for Philippe Coutinho worth in excess of £108million.

Liverpool have made their stance clear to Barcelona, with Jurgen Klopp determined to keep his chief creator.

But The Times claim Barcelona are not ready to give up and another bid is anticipated.

It is said they are prepared to put forward as much as £108.4m in the hope of weakening Liverpool's resolve.

Damian: I never gave up on United

11:00: Matteo Darmian insists he never gave up on his Manchester United career.

The Italian full-back was initially overlooked by Jose Mourinho, but has now established himself as first-choice left-back.

Darmian told Premium Sport: "I never let go, not even in the toughest moments, I tried to take advantage of every possibility, last year I played a lot, closing in a positive way: I want to start from there.

"United wants to keep me, and that's what I like.

"I enjoyed being followed by Italian teams, although there was nothing concrete about any of them. In my future I see Manchester United, I'm fine here. So I think it is useless to talk about the market."

Williams back on Liverpool radar

10:45: Liverpool have resumed their interest in Athletic Bilbao star Inaki Williams.

The Reds have frequently been linked with Williams, 23, over the past few seasons.

But with the potential departure of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona, TMW claim Jurgen Klopp views him as a potential replacement.

However, the Merseyside outfit will have to do battle with Borussia Dortmund, who are also thought to be interested in securing his services.

Boro accept Marten de Roon bid

10:30: Middlesbrough have accepted a bid from Atalanta for midfielder Marten de Roon.

The 26-year-old Dutchman joined Boro from the Italian side last summer in a £12million move ahead of their return to the Premier League, but has been linked with a return this summer.

It is understood the Teessiders have now agreed a fee to allow De Roon, who started last Saturday's 1-0 Championship defeat at Wolves, to head back to Italy.

Boro have spent heavily during the summer window with £15million striker Britt Assombalonga heading a list of incomers which also includes Darren Randolph, Ashley Fletcher, Martin Braithwaite, Cyrus Christie and Jonny Howson.

Wenger admits contract fault

10:15: Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed how uncertainty over his future last season created a "lack of clarity in the dressing room" and saw players asking him what was going on.

The Gunners boss said: "I had an impact on the season, because at some stage the players came to see me and said:,'What's going on boss? Where do you go?'

"I created, with me not deciding, a lack of clarity in the dressing room and there is nothing worse than that in the dressing room.

"When you are not completely in or the players feel you are not completely in, it is difficult to tell them we go (out to win).

"At some stage, I had to tell them, 'Look guys, I am with you, but we have to win games'."

Sherwood backs Barcelona to get their man

10:00: Tim Sherwood believes Philippe Coutinho will join Barcelona because Liverpool won't risk the player's value dropping.

"He goes. No danger," Sherwood told talkSPORT.

"The player wants to leave. When Barcelona and Real Madrid come knowing they go.

"Other chairman want Liverpool to make a stand. But if you don't take the money you end up without the player if you don't let them leave. They throw their toys out of the pram.

"I understand the owners don't want to sell, he's a little genius. He's been fantastic for Liverpool and Liverpool have been fantastic for him.

"There's no loyalty in the game, from clubs to players or players to clubs."

Lineker backs Spurs despite lack of signings

09:50: Gary Lineker feels Tottenham fans should not be worried by the club's lack of transfer activity - and believes his old side could "steal a march" on their Premier League title rivals.

"It is all very well when you supporters say 'we have not made enough signings, we need three or four new players coming in', but if you look at Spurs they are actually quite a strong team," said the former England forward.

"It could perhaps upset the equilibrium a little bit by bringing in three or four faces, other teams that have, (like) Manchester City and Manchester United, they don't know how they are going to adapt immediately.

"They have got the problem of knowing their best team, the best selection, the best system that suits those particular players.

"Tottenham, and Arsene Wenger as well has not brought in too many players, and they might steal a march, get off to a good start because they are the teams which have familiarity amongst themselves and they know what is the best way of playing, so it is not necessarily an advantage to bring in loads of players every summer."

ICYMI - Liverpool snub second bid

09:30: Liverpool have rejected a second bid worth £90million for midfielder Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona.

Barcelona are keen to sign the Brazilian playmaker, who joined Liverpool from Inter Milan for £8.5m in 2013, and have already had an initial bid worth £72m rejected.

The 24-time Spanish league champions increased the offer to £76m plus £13.5m in add-ons but Liverpool have rejected the second bid, maintaining their stance that the player is not for sale.

Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp has repeatedly said that the 25-year-old, who was a key player for the Anfield outfit last campaign, would not be sold and the club's position is boosted by Coutinho's signing of a new five-year contract last season.

AC Milan chief: We want Diego Costa

09:15: AC Milan chief Massimiliano Mirabelli has confirmed his intentions to sign Chelsea forward Diego Costa.

The Premier League-winning forward has been told that he’s surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.

And AC Milan are looking to capitalise on Atletico Madrid’s reluctance to meet his £50million valuation.

Mirabelli said: “We are interested in Diego Costa and Aubameyang! We need an advanced forward for this summer and we absolutely can not go wrong. Supporters have faith in us and we have to repay them."

Neville: “WTF is Danny Rose thinking?!”

09:00: Gary Neville has hit out at Danny Rose for criticising Tottenham in a sensational interview.

Rose did not hold back in his assessment of the current situation at Spurs, who are yet to sign a player this summer.

The 27-year-old demanded new signings at Tottenham and put both Manchester clubs on alert by admitting he is eyeing a move back north.

But despite Rose’s honest opinions, Manchester United legend Neville can’t believe it.

“WTF is Danny Rose thinking!!” Neville tweeted.

“Imagine walking into the training ground having not been fit for months and months. Morning lads!!”

Zidane fighting for Sanchez

08:35: Zinedine Zidane is eager to sign Alexis Sanchez, who he views as the perfect alternative to Monaco superstar Kylian Mbappe.

Spanish publication Don Balon claim Zidane thinks Sanchez would be an excellent addition to his already stacked squad.

But Real president Florentino Perez is reluctant.

The report says Perez thinks the Arsenal attacker is too old and he would rather focus on youthful targets instead.

West Ham plot Carvalho bid

08:10: West Ham are ready to bid for Sporting Lisbon defensive midfielder William Carvalho, reports claim.

Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool have all previously been linked with the 25-year-old Portugal international.

But it’s Slaven Bilic’s West Ham who are prepared to make the first move.

The Daily Mail claim Bilic is still looking to add to his squad and will make a £25m bid for Carvalho in the coming days.

Zlatan doubts boost United hopes

07:45: Doubts over AC Milan's interest in Zlatan Ibrahimovic have given Manchester United a boost.

United and Milan both want to sign Ibrahimovic, who is a free agent but is also out until the New Year with a knee injury.

United are said to have opened contract talks with the player, while Milan are also keen to re-sign their former striker.

But Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport claim the 35-year-old is not a realistic target for Milan, who need to strengthen this summer and who are closing in on a deal for Fiorentina's Nikola Kalinic.

Chelsea's £35million swoop

07:25: Chelsea are poised to launch a bid for Arsenal star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, reports claim.

Conte is said to be a big fan of the England international and is looking to land the 23-year-old, who has a year left on his Gunners contract, for £35million.

It’s believed Conte wants to transform Oxlade-Chamberlain into a marauding right wing-back.

Newcastle sign Chelsea's Kenedy on loan

05:15: Newcastle have sealed a season-long loan deal for Chelsea rebel Kenedy, according to reports.

Chelsea put Kenedy on the market after he was sent home from the club’s pre-season tour of China.

The 21-year-old caused offence with his ill-advised posts on social media.

The shots on Instagram in which he accompanied it with captions of ‘Damn China’ and ‘Wake up China, you idiot!’.

And the Daily Mirror claim the Magpies have moved quickly to secure a deal and help Kenedy rebuild his career.

Jurgen Klopp blocking Philippe Coutinho move from Liverpool

03:30: Liverpool chiefs are reportedly open to selling Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona but Jurgen Klopp is blocking the move.

Liverpool are facing an anxious wait over Coutinho’s future with Barcelona determined to bring the Brazil star to the Nou Camp.

Express Sport understands the Catalan giants have seen their offer of £90.3million knocked back by the Merseyside giants.

But Barcelona are not expected to give up without a fight and a third bid is in the works.

And Marca have now claimed that Liverpool are not Barcelona’s obstacle to the deal - instead it is manager Klopp.

Mourinho wants Bale

02:00: Jose Mourinho thinks Manchester United can sign Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale after performing background checks with the Spanish club.

Following their 2-1 European Super Cup defeat on Tuesday night, Jose Mourinho had dismissed the Red Devils’ pursuit of the Wales international as being over.

"I think now everybody knows he is going to stay," Mourinho said.

However, despite his comments, there seems to be a belief behind the scenes that things might happen.

Reports yesterday claimed Florentino Perez had privately told the United manager that Bale could be allowed to leave should they receive a suitable offer.

And The Sun are now saying that Mourinho is confident he can still get a deal for the 27-year-old over the line.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic talks

00:30: Manchester United have reportedly opened talks with Zlatan Ibrahimovic over a new deal.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic was released by Manchester United in June after suffering a serious knee injury toward the end of last season.

The talismanic Swede has been allowed to receive treatment though at the club’s Carrington training complex as he continues his rehabilitation process.

United, the Daily Mail are interested in re-signing him, although the report doesn’t indicate how long a deal they would offer.

Jose Mourinho confirmed after the Super Cup defeat to Real Madrid that Ibrahimovic was closer to signing for United than any other club.

Cancelo on his way

23:30: Joao Cancelo could become Antonio Conte's latest Chelsea signing within 'hours'.

Spanish publication Don Balon claim talks are progressing quickly and he could become a Chelsea player imminently.

The Portugal international remains under contract with Valencia until 2021 but Chelsea are prepared to pay around £25m to sign him.

Barca make another Coutinho bid

21.44: Barcelona have made a second bid of £90.3m for Philippe Coutinho.

Barcelona have made Coutinho their number one target as they look to replace Neymar.

And they have returned with another bid for the Anfield star totalling €100m (£93.3m).

Coutinho is understood to be keen on a move to the Nou Camp but does not want to rock the boat and will not request a transfer.

Barcelona are hopeful of having him in place this weekend and reports this weekend have suggested a deal has been agreed.

However the emergence of this latest shows those reports have been prematures although it is thought a deal between Coutinho’s people and Barca has been agreed in principle.

Conte eyes Roberto

21:15: Antonio Conte has requested Chelsea's to board make a move for Barcelona star Sergi Roberto.

Spanish publication Sport claim it is Conte who is pushing hard to sign the midfielder and has asked Chelsea's hierarchy to make contact with Barca over Roberto's availability.

Roberto has a €40million (£36m) release clause in his Barca contract that currently runs until 2019.

The Blues have the funds available to activate his buy-out clause but are being cautious with their need to splash the cash, having already signed midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko from Monaco for £40m.

Chelsea could even wait until the season has started before deciding whether to actively pursue Roberto.

Willian held talks with Man Utd

19:30: Willian has confirmed he did hold talks with Manchester United over a potential reunion with Jose Mourinho but insists he is happy at Chelsea.

"There were a few conversations with my agent. I worked with Mourinho and I became his friend as well," he told Goal.

"He likes me a lot and I like him a lot as a coach and as a person. He has put his trust in me and in my work, and I was very grateful to him.

"Manchester came to me, they talked with my agent, but nothing happened, because Chelsea would not negotiate me in any way and I'm very happy at Chelsea."

Klopp told to spend

18.36: John Aldridge insists Liverpool need more additions to take them to the next level.

The Reds secures a return to the Champions League last season by finishing fourth in the Premier League.

They have added Mohamed Salah, Dominic Solanke and Andy Robertson.

But former Liverpool striker Aldridge thinks one or two more deals could make them title challengers.

“All Liverpool fans would have liked to have seen a few more faces added to the Liverpool squad with the Champions League qualifier against Hoffenheim now just over a week away, but there is still the best part of a month of the transfer window to go and I’m sure lots of business will be done between now and deadline day,” he wrote for Sunday World.

“If Klopp and the Anfield board can pull a few rabbits out of the transfer hat and sign some top performers, maybe I can upgrade may ambitions beyond just a top-four finish for Liverpool this season.

“Yet, as we saw last season, this talented squad that can blow any team away on their day also has some flaws in it and Klopp will need plenty of luck with injuries if he is to have any chance of making a push to win the Premier League or Champions League.”

Mourinho won't pay more than £72m for Bale

1810: Jose Mourinho remains keen on bringing Real Madrid star Gareth Bale to Manchester United despite the Portuguese boss stating publicly the chase is over.

Spanish publication Diario Gol claim behind closed doors Mourinho is still hopeful of signing the former Tottenham star.

However, the report states Mourinho does not believe he is worth the €100million (£90.4m) Madrid value him at.

And Mourinho has made it clear he will not pay more than 80m (£72m) for his services.

Gray signs for Watford

16:45: Watford have confirmed the signing of Andre Gray from Burnley for a club record transfer fee, thought to be in around £18.5m.

Gray found the net 33 times during two seasons with the Clarets, including nine goals in 26 top-flight starts during 2016/17.

Madrid cool De Gea interest

15:55: Manchester United have delayed plans to extend David De Gea's contract with Real Madrid cooling their interest.

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has now ruled out making a move for him this summer and The Sun claim they will now renew their interest next summer.

The report claims the Frenchman is happy with current No 1 Keylor Navas and does not need to pursue De Gea again this time around.

De Gea still has two years remaining on his current deal and United have the option to extend for a further year.

But Mourinho and United's hierarchy have decided to wait before trying to extend De Gea's deal.

Conte talks transfers... again

15:35: Antonio Conte insists Chelsea need more signings to cope with the added demands of playing in the Champions League and warned his players they will have to work even harder than they did during last season's title-winning campaign.

Chelsea, who were not in Europe but won the domestic title by seven points in Conte's first season in charge, have signed four players so far this summer, including striker Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid.

Goalkeeper Willy Caballero joined on a free transfer from Manchester City, with defensive midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko and centre-back Antonio Rudiger the other additions.

"I think these are good signings for us," Conte told Sky Sports on Wednesday. "We solved a lot in this summer, and for this reason it's very important to try to improve our squad because we have one more competition.

"We have to play Champions League. It's not easy. It's very important to try to find the right solution, to try to improve the squad, to improve the quality before (we) start the season."

Gray to Watford

14:38: Watford are close to agreeing an £18.5m deal to sign Burnley striker Andre Gray.

Gray scored nine goals as the Clarets avoided relegation under Sean Dyche last season.

But the 26-year-old appears to have fallen out of favour at Turf Moor with the MailOnline claiming Dyche stopped Gray's girlfriend - Little mix singer Leigh-Anne Pinnock - from sitting in the directors' box despite being invited on more than one occasion.

But Pinnock was forced to sit with the rest of the team's wives and girlfriends because Dyche didn't want her to receive preferential treatment for being famous.

Wenger gives Sanchez contract update

14:20: Alexis Sanchez could still sign a new deal at Arsenal, according to Arsene Wenger.

The Chile international now has less than 12 months left on his deal, with his future clouded in uncertainty.

On whether Sanchez will be signing a new contract, Wenger said: "All is possible you know.

"When a player goes into the final year of their contract we will try to extend the contract because there is no reason we shouldn’t do it.

"But we are not there yet."

Morata backed by Henry

14:10: Thierry Henry is backing Alvaro Morata to emulate his Juventus form at Chelsea under Antonio Conte following his £70m arrival from Real Madrid.

"He is the type of striker that Antonio Conte likes," Henry told Sky Sports.

"He's generous in the way he plays, he knows what he needs to do at all times. He asks for the ball in behind, he holds the ball up and he can score goals too.

"Conte will make him work exactly the way he wants. Morata will have a good idea of what to expect because, although he didn't play under Conte, it was the same kind of vibe at Juventus. He will know about that.

"He will need to get used to the Premier League but then he will perform. I'm very excited about him."

On replacing the outgoing Costa, Henry added: "It's a heavy task to come after Diego Costa but someone has to do it."

Benitez and Wenger talk Perez

14:00: Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez has revealed he spoke to Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger about bringing Lucas Perez to St James' Park.

When asked if Newcastle were going to sign Perez, Benitez told BT Sport: “I was talking with Arsene yesterday, because we had the managers meeting.

“I said: ‘Listen, we have to talk.’

“And he said: ‘Do you have some money?’

“Obviously, we like good players, but it’s too soon to talk about that.”

No Liverpool contact for Lanzini

13:17: Liverpool have been linked with a move for West Ham playmaker Manuel Lanzini should they lose Philippe Coutinho the Barcelona.

But Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol insists the Reds are yet to make contact with the Hammers about a potential deal.

"Now if [Coutinho] was to go, one name mentioned is Manuel Lanzini at West Ham," Solhekol added.

"He had a very impressive season as a No 10 after Dimitri Payet left in January.

"Liverpool have been linked with him, but at the moment there has been no contact with West Ham.

"And the message from West Ham is loud and clear - Lanzini is not for sale."

Coutinho unveiling Friday?

12:39: Barcelona have sent an e-mail to a BT Sport journalist to prepare for the unveiling of Philippe Coutinho.

The Spanish giants have flown in representatives to seal a £120 million deal for the Liverpool star - despite the club refusing to sell.

But it appears there are already plans in place to unveil him on Friday.

BT Sport journalist Andy May tweeted today: “Already getting emails from Barcelona offering television coverage of @Phil_Coutinho Barca presentation this Friday #keen.”

Rose flattered by interest

12:15: Danny Rose is flattered by interest from Manchester United and is considering his future at Tottenham.

The London Evening Standard claim Rose has been assessing his options for some time and is happy to be linked with United.

And even though Rose is content at Spurs under Mauricio Pochettino, he has been considering a change in the future.

Trophies are a key factor for him going forward, and he questions the possibility of glory at Tottenham.

United boss Jose Mourinho is a long-term admirer, Paris Saint-Germain followed Rose during last season and Chelsea are continuing to monitor his situation.

Unless things change dramatically, though, the defender will apparently stay at Spurs this summer.

United want two more players

12:00: Manchester United want to sign two more players before the transfer window slams shut.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United will up their efforts to sign Inter winger Ivan Perisic this week.

And he could be one of two new faces at Old Trafford this month with Jose Mourinho also open on signing a defender.

It’s claimed the United boss wants a left-back with Luke Shaw and Ashley Young still on their way back to full fitness.

One man on their radar is Tottenham defender Danny Rose.

Chelsea scout Cancelo

11:55: Chelsea have reportedly scouted Valencia right-back Joao Cancelo twice this summer, claims Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol.

"Conte wants to sign at least one wing-back this summer," Solhekol said on Sky Sports.

"And one of the players he is interested in is Joao Cancelo, he's a Valencia right-back who was scouted playing for Portugal at the European Under-21 Championships.

"And he's been watched again during pre-season. Juventus and Spurs are also said to be interested. He's valued at about £25m."

Vidal to Liverpool

11:25: Arturo Vidal has emerged as a target for Liverpool, according to surprise reports.

Liverpool have spent most of this summer being frustrated in their bid to sign Naby Keita from RB Leipzig.

And according to World Football Index, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has now turned to Bayern Munich star Vidal.

Apparently sources in Chile claim the 30-year-old has been targeted by Klopp ahead of the transfer window deadline on August 31.

De Gea to Madrid a definite - McManaman

10:50: Manchester United will "definitely" lose David De Gea to Real Madrid - eventually, Steve McManaman believes.

"Madrid covet him highly don't they and they want him," McManaman told BT Sport. "They'll end up taking him off Man United, whether it's next year, the year after.

"They will take him in the end, definitely, they will definitely take him.

"In the end if United are not delivering the trophies that de Gea wants, he'll want to move to Real Madrid.

"He's a Spanish boy and he'll end up going that way. I thought he did well, he shone out of the goalkeepers tonight."

Benitez isn't happy

10:34; Rafael Benitez has admitted he is not happy with Newcastle's summer transfer business.

Benitez has made a number of signings, headlined by the £12million capture of Jacob Murphy from Norwich and Florian Lejeune from Eibar for £8.7m.

But the Spaniard admits he is frustrated that more has not been done to improve last season's Championship winners ahead of Sunday's opener against Tottenham.

"I am not happy but at the same time for me it's a challenge," Benitez said on Sky Sports. "I try to do my best."

Conte on Costa

10:22: Antonio Conte admits he thinks a lot about Diego Costa but refused to discuss whether the Spaniard would return to the club.

Conte said at the launch of the Premier League: “I think a lot about Costa.

“I think I was very clear in the past and I think now it’s not important to repeat.”

Transfer News Philippe Coutinho Gareth Bale GETTY

Transfer News: Philippe Coutinho, Gareth Bale, Virgil van Dijk and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain may move

NO Coutinho deal close

09:39: Barcelona have NOT made contact with Liverpool over Philippe Coutinho and there are no plans for any meetings, according to Spanish football expert Guillem Balague.

Balague tweeted: “Catalan press should stop using the 'it's a matter of hours' in regards of Coutinho transfer. These are the reasons...

“LFC not heard at all from FCB since that offer they received while in Hong Kong. They insist they not selling and no plans for meetings.

“FCB have strategy based in patience but also admit that if it's not Coutinho it will be another one. And that they won't overspend on him.

“Coutinho has NOT handed a transfer request, has a back injury and still behaving impeccably according to club.”

Coutinho will not force move

08:54: Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho will reportedly not force through a move to Barcelona this summer.

Coutinho is wanted at Barcelona this summer as the La Liga giants look to replace Paris Saint-Germain's £200million new boy Neymar.

And according to Sky Sports, the Brazil international is keen to join Barca but has no intention of trying to force Liverpool's hand.

The 25-year-old reported for training at Melwood yesterday as normal.

Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial out?

08.32: Steven Gerrard believes Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial could leave Manchester United if they don’t improve this season.

He said on BT Sport: “I think Jose’s found his spine now with the signings he’s made.

“Manchester United to me look very strong as team down the middle.

“I’m not sure these players we’re talking about in the wide areas, the likes of Lingard and Martial.

“I’m not sure they’ve hit those heights yet to be really described as a Man Utd player.

“I think it’s big season for them. I think if those individuals don’t find consistency over the next 12 months, I don’t think they’ll be at Manchester United very long.”

Saints' Van Dijk threat

07:42: Southampton would rather leave Virgil van Dijk to rot in the stands than sell their want-away captain to Liverpool.

Van Dijk has put in a transfer request to force through his dream move to Anfield having been made to train alone after telling Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino he wants to leave.

But the club are still fuming with Liverpool for tapping up their skipper and are determined not to do business with the Merseysiders even if it means missing out on a £60m pay-day.

A club insider said: “We do not want to sell Virgil to Liverpool and will happily let him sit in the stands all season if we have to.

“Most of the fans would back the club in this after everything that has gone on.”

Chelsea’s £25m Ox bid

06:00: Chelsea have reportedly made a £25m bid for Arsenal star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Oxlade-Chamberlain, who is entering the final year of his contract at Arsenal, could be sold this summer.

Liverpool were previously keen on signing the England international before Jurgen Klopp got out the chequebook for £39m Mohamed Salah.

And now the Daily Mail say the Blues have made a £25m bid for Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The report adds that the Gunners are aware of Chelsea’s interest in the 23-year-old, but have rebuffed their offer.

Alexis Sanchez's Arsenal future remains uncertain

Man City think they can land Sanchez

04:30: Manchester City can sign Arsenal winger Alexis Sanchez ahead of Paris Saint-Germain despite offering the player a lesser wage than the Ligue 1 giants, reports say.

With less than a month of the transfer window remaining, the future of Arsenal star Sanchez continues to be the source of much discussion.

Express Sport understands PSG are ready to launch a £35m bid now they have completed the signing of Neymar from Barcelona.

However, Manchester City are determined to bring him to the Etihad Stadium and reunite him with Pep Guardiola, who managed him at Barcelona.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has repeatedly insisted Sanchez will not be leaving this month - despite the fact his current deal expires in less than 12 months time.

But The Independent claim Manchester City feel they can land their No1 target.

Ibra in talks with United

04:00: Manchester United are negotiating a new contract with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, according to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

A serious knee injury prematurely ended his first campaign in English football and, as a result, the Red Devils opted against naming him in their squad for the forthcoming campaign.

Hopes he would stay appeared to be dashed when Manchester United spent £75m to bring in Romelu Lukaku from Everton.

But, despite the Belgium international enduring a good start to life at his new club, Ibrahimovic still looks set to return.

And journalist Di Marzio says the Red Devils are now in negotiations with the 35-year-old over a short-term deal.

It is said there has been contact between Jose Mourinho and the forward as Ibrahimovic steps up his bid to regain fitness.
